Size
The size of the off road caravan matters. The best type of off road caravan you can get is the caravan that has the same width and height. Nonetheless, off road caravans with same width and height are not common. In this regard, you can select the smallest size that fits your convenience. A smaller caravan means less damage. It is worth noting that a 17-foot caravan is far much better than a 21-foot caravan is. The larger the caravan, the more facilities the caravan has. However, when it comes to rough terrains, these additional facilities can become a liability along the way.
Suspension
It is important to have shock absorbers in addition to the leaf springs on the solid axle. Typically, most off road caravans have leaf springs with a solid axle because it is cheapest option in the industry. However, shock absorbers are an integral component of every motor vehicle. Shock absorbers play a significant role of dampening the springs when the caravan is in motion. Alternatively, you can have an independent suspension on your caravan because the suspension ensures that the caravan tracks behind the car in every terrain.
Hitch
You can choose any type of hitch available in the market. Ensure that the hitch allows rotational flexibility essential for vertical entries and departures. If it is possible, you can switch the standard off road caravans hitch with a customised, rock solid hitch. Essentially, your caravan should be on the same level when hitched to the towing vehicle to balance the weight distribution.
The Make
Ordinarily, you will find cars made for rough terrains and others made for even surfaces. The same case applies to off road caravans. Unfortunately, there is no particular way of determining the roadworthiness of a caravan. You will have to rely on the manufacturer or the dealer and find out if the caravan is right for the intended purposes. It is advisable, however, to evaluate roadworthiness of the caravan, because sales persons can be sometimes mislead you. Find a caravan with a strong frame and the galvanised floor. Moreover, the caravan should not have underneath protrusions.
